Hey, it’s Nancy, and welcome to my channel. Today, I have a special treat for you because we’re going to unbox my Steam Deck. Now, I picked one of these up, and I waited about 77 days. I ordered it July 22nd, and it came in October 6th. So let’s go ahead and unbox this and take a look at what it looks like. Let’s go ahead and do the overhead shot.

INTRODUCTION

I was really on the fence about picking one of these up, as I just didn’t know if I was going to be able to use it as much as I thought I would. But let’s go ahead and open this up and see what we got inside. I figure if I don’t like it, I could give it to one of my kids or sell it online. I’m sure somebody would buy it. So let’s go ahead and open this up and see what we have inside.

NECESSARY PAPERWORK ON STEAM DECK

So we have this little sheet, says attention. And basically it tells us how to power it on. Plug in on the back side. It goes through and it talks about all the different menus and stuff that you can pull up from the steam and from using the options, it looks like. That’s where you put your SIM card, which I have gotten. I’ve ordered the SIM card, and I also happen to got to the display cover for it so I don’t get fingerprints all over the display. So let’s go ahead and set those over here.

YOUR GAMES ARE GOING PLACES

And here we go. Here is the Steam Deck. Now let’s pick this, move it out here, put that there. And we can see here is the Steam Deck. It says, “Your games are going places.” So let’s go ahead and get this off. See how this opens. Pull that out. Nice cover and plastic.

WHY THE 256GB STEAM DECK

And then we have here an outside cover. Now, which one did I get? Well, I didn’t go for the 516; I went for the 256. I figure I don’t do a whole lot of games; I’m not one that has a thousand games. I may have 12 games, so I figured this would do me well.

A SEPARATE CARD FOR EMULATION

If I need to do any emulation, I’ll just get a different card for each emulation that I want to do. But so it’s a 256 model. Let’s go ahead and take this cover off and see what we have here. All right, throw that down there. And so we have the cover here, and it’s obvious… Let me put that over there. And so it’s obvious. It appears to be a nice cover. It’s got a nice feel to it. And then it’s also, has got a security lock. Now that’s different and unique that he has that on there. So let’s see if we can do this without cutting myself. We did.

1ST EVER HANDHELD DEVICE – STEAM DECK

Now, as I said, I’m not a big handheld gamer. In fact, this is the first handheld I’ve actually purchased for myself. I’ve purchased other for my kids, but I’ve never purchased one for myself. So let’s see what it looks like inside. Wow. Now this is a nice forming case. I really like the case. Let’s pull this out and see. You know what? Everybody said this was hefty, but it’s not as hefty I thought it was going to be. So this has an actual nice feel to it when you put it in your hands. And I have small hands, and it seems to fit just fine. I love the size of that screen. I have to tell you, for these old eyes, that’s going to be something else.

STEAM DECK ACCEPTS MICRO CARDS

So I’m going to go ahead, and before I go anywhere else, I’m going to go ahead and put the SIM card in and actually put the screen on, and then we’ll come back to the video.

I SCREWED UP PUTTING THE PROTECTIVE COVER ON THE STEAM DECK DISPLAY

Okay, we’re back. I got in too much of a hurry to get this thing on that I didn’t get this protective cover on the way I wanted to. I’m probably going to have to use the other one. It came with two; no big deal. But I wanted to turn around and get it out of the protective case. I do like this feature where you can just easily lift it out. It keeps it in there. Let’s go ahead and put that away and set this down for a minute. So that’s a power for it.

WHY NOT THE 512 GB STEAM DECK

Why I did not get the 512 GB Steam Deck.I went ahead and I did get the 256 version of the Steam Deck. I just couldn’t see spending $649 for it when I’m probably not going to need that much of a capacity. I’ll probably regret it, but I went middle of the road, so we’ll see how it goes.

STEAM DECK SPECS

Now let’s look at some of the specs on this thing. Has an AMD APU, it has a Zen 2 CPU, and a GPU. It runs on four to 15 watts, so you’re going to have to use… That’s one of the things that I’ve read a lot about. You’re going to have to use this actual power supply in order to support it, because you can’t use a regular brick for it that has that attachment. So it has a ton of paddles on it, more paddles than you know what to do. So it’s got the ones here. You got this one that pulls up a menu. This one that pulls up a menu.

NO POWER

Let’s go ahead and turn it on, see what happens. I don’t know if it will or not; I didn’t plug it in. Like I said, I was in too big a hurry. It’s got the AB, XY. Also, It’s got these controllers. It’s got the finger pads. You turn it over, it’s got these paddles down here. The sound, the airflow. I’m going to really take this out. I’m going to a wedding, and this is going to be on the trip with me, and that’s going to be really the big test for this one. If you want to know what I actually feel about it after I’ve had it and used it for a while, just let me know in the comments below. But I wanted to do an unboxing and tell you my things about it.

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS

So as I said, my whole goal was just to do an initial unboxing and my first impressions of the actual Steam Deck. I haven’t really had a chance to play it yet. I’m be doing that in a couple weeks. Till then, I’m too busy putting out videos to even have time to mess with this other than the initial setup. If you want me to do a review on what I think about it after I’ve had spent some time using it, leave me a comment down below. And until next time, as always, please be safe.
