After watching hundreds of reviews on YouTube about Logitech MX Keys Keyboard, I decided to take the plunge and buy the keyboard.  That was over nine months ago (March 2021) and I have been in love with it since.  That is… until November when I started experiencing some problems with the keyboard.

Now let’s get back to the video.  As I stated earlier, I love the Logitech MX Keys until the last two months.  Since then I have felt like throwing that keyboard across the room.  Because the keyboard will not reconnect to my iMac.That is when I started to experience problems with it and I have tried everything that I can find on the Internet to fix it.  Nothing I do is fixing the problem.

The Problem

I cannot get the Logitech MX Keys to reconnect to my iMac using either Bluetooth or the Unifying receiver.  I wanted to take you through the steps that I have done to try to resolve the issue.  Maybe one of the steps that I have taken will work for you if you cannot get your keyboard to connect to your Mac.

1.     How To Pair Bluetooth Logitech MX Keys Keyboard?

The Logitech MX Keys is easy to pair using Bluetooth.  All you have to do is to is pick one of the three keys that you want link the device too. Hold that key for at least three seconds in order to place the device in discovery mode.  You will know it is in discovery mode because the device will blink quickly.  Now let go of the button and hold the button until it is steady.

2.     Connecting Using the USB Unifying Receiver

If you are using the Unifying Receiver to connect to the Mac then you need to plug the Unifying receiver into the USB plug on the back of your Mac. Again, place the keyboard in discovery mode by selecting one of the three keys and holding it for three seconds.  Once it connects, it will ask you to enter some numbers to verify the device then it is connected.

3.     Is the Logitech MX Keys Keyboard Charged?

One of the easiest things to overlook when troubleshooting is ensuring that the keyboard is sufficuentily charged.  In order to ensure that the device was charged I moved it to my Windows machine that  will continually charge the device.

4.     Reboot the iMac

If you still cannot get your Logitech MX Keys Keyboard to connect then restart the computer and try to connect again.

5.     Update Your Operating System

Sometimes the problem is as simple as updating the Operating System.  So, I went ahead and updated the operating system to include upgrading the the latest OS (Monterey).

Download the Latest Logitech Software

If you are still having a problem then try downloading the latest Logitech software for MX Keys. Logitech Options is the latest software that works with MX Keys.    Another piece of Logitech software that may need to be update is Logitech Control Center.  You will need to do this especially if you upgrade the Operating System on your Mac.

6.     Reset the SMC On Your Mac

Sometimes your Mac can have a USB port with a power related problem and by resetting the system management controller or SMC for short can resolve the problem.

  1.  Shut down your MAC using the Apple Menu.
  2. Quickly turn on your Mac and Press Option, Command, P, and R keys together very quickly.
  3. Keep holding for about 20 seconds.
  4. When you release the keys the Mac will restart.

7.     Boot into Safe Mode

Another thing to try is to boot into SAFE Mode.

  1. To do first, turn your Mac off.
  2. Turn on your Mac and quickly press and hold the Shift Key.
  3. Keep holding the Shift Key until you see the Login screen.  Safe Mode can take up to to minutes so be patient.
  4. When your computer is in SAFE Mode, test the keyboard now.  Is it working?
  5. To get out of SAFE Mode, just restart your Mac normally without holding the Shift key.

8.     Delete Preference Files

Sometimes your preference file can become corrupted and by deleting the file it may fix your issue.

  1. Open the Library File.  Here are the steps to do so:
  2. On your Mac, click the Finder icon on the Dock.
  3. In the Finder, click Go.
  4. Hold down the Option key and you will see the Library Folder in the Go dropdown menu.  Click it to open.
  5. Click Preferences.
  6. Find the “com.apple.HITOOLBOX.plist” file.  This is the Human Interface Toolbox settings file.  The files stores keyboard default settings.
  7. Delete this file.
  8. Restart your MAC.
  9. Does the keyboard work now.

Summary of Connection Issues on Logitech MX Keys Keyboard

You can try all of the above to resolve your issues with the Logitech MX Keys Connectivity issues.  I know that I have tried them all and still cannot connect to the the Mac.  Since I primarily been using the keyboard on my iMac that is where I need it to work.  I have to be honest with you.  I gave up on this keyboard about two weeks ago when I spent the weekend trying to get this fixed.  As a result, I have purchased the Satechi Bluetooth keyboard.  I have had a keyboard like this one before and loved it.  I will do a review of this keyboard in the near future.  In the meantime, please subscribe to the channel, click the notification bell and leave me a comment below.  Until next time.  Be Safe.
